Dan Orlovsky, a former NFL quarterback, made a swift transition into the world of media after retiring in 2017.

Since then, he has quickly risen to prominence and has his sights set on calling top NFL games for a league partner in the near future.

Despite not being as famous or experienced as some other candidates in the media industry, Orlovsky passionately believes he is cut out for the job.

“While I absolutely believe I am good enough and capable enough and willing to put in the work to go and not only have one of those chairs but deserve it be really stinking good at it,” Orlovsky said. “I’m aware part of that is not in my control.”

Orlovsky’s media journey began in July 2018 when he was hired by ESPN primarily to cover college football.

His talent and dedication didn’t go unnoticed, as he swiftly climbed the ladder. In July 2020, he joined the NFL Live cast and last May, he joined ESPN’s No. 2 NFL booth.

This season, Orlovsky is not only calling games for ESPN but also making regular appearances on NFL Live, First Take, The Pat McAfee Show, Get Up!, and providing college football analysis for ESPN and ABC.

While Orlovsky may be known online for his peculiarities when it comes to food and hygiene, it’s important to note that he is also one of the smartest and hardest-working football analysts in the industry.

His expertise and dedication were recognized by Fox Sports, who pursued him for a position last year.

However, Orlovsky opted to stay with ESPN after negotiating a promotion to the No. 2 game booth.

Despite his rapid rise in the media industry, Orlovsky has also been frequently pursued for jobs on NFL offensive coaching staffs.

When asked if he would be satisfied if he never got the opportunity to call NFL games with a top crew, Orlovsky’s response was emphatic.

“I don’t think I would be,” he told Deitsch. “I think at some point, I want that opportunity and I want to work toward that opportunity … I don’t think I would be OK passing on that.”

He is determined and hungry for the chance to showcase his skills and analysis as a play-by-play commentator for the biggest NFL games.
