FS1’s Nick Wright Challenges Jets QB Aaron Rodgers to Debate Regarding His Attempt to Comeback from Torn Achilles

It seems like New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers cannot escape debates. While some of it is his own doing, Rodgers continues to be discussed frequently over the course of the 2023 NFL season despite having played just four snaps before suffering an Achilles tear. Just over a month after the injury, Rodgers was seen on the field at MetLife Stadium on Sunday without crutches and throwing a football.

Ordinarily, a torn Achilles is a season-ending injury that requires surgery and a full offseason of recovery and rehab. However, Rodgers is not your ordinary guy. He is attempting to pull off a miraculous comeback with a goal of returning before the season ends in hopes of leading the Jets to a playoff run. While he seems to be making significant strides in his recovery, FS1’s Nick Wright seems skeptical.

Wright is questioning whether or not it is wise of Rodgers to portray the illusion that he is healthy, misleading fans, media, and most importantly his teammates. During FS1’s First Things First, Wright challenged Rodgers to debate if this was a good idea.

“…The question will just be, ‘If you’re trying to get back to playing football, is for lack of a better term, putting on a show in front of the cameras and cosplaying that you’re healthy is that that good or bad for your recovery?’”

Wright is worried that people saw Rodgers throwing a football on the field without crutches or a boot and will now begin to underestimate the road to recovery after tearing your Achilles. It is rare to see players return from an injury of this nature in fewer than six months and a six-month recovery timetable would put Rodgers on track to return in March, when the NFL season is already over.
