The first woman to coach on the field in a major league game, Alyssa Nakken has been reported to be interviewed for the Giants managerial vacancy.
San Francisco Giants coach Nakken worked the first base for San Francisco in April 2022. Again, became the first woman to speak with an organization formally about leading on-field operations, as sources have revealed.
In 2020, Nakken, 33 years old, was known as the first female full-time coach in MLB who was hired in January 2020 by Gabe Kapler.
In 2022, she filled in as first-base coach and previously has been in the major league as an assistant coach for the last four seasons.
She stared in the league in 2013 as a baseball operations intern, which has parallels with many more women joining minor league staff. As of now, Nakken has remained as the only female Major League coach.
Kim Ng, the Miami Marlins general manager who was hired in November 2020, is better known as the first female GM in major North American men’s professional sports.
The interview for the managerial position is reported as the first round, and President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi also confirmed it on Sunday night.
Zaidi also has expressed his high hopes in finding a new manager to replace Gabe Kapler, fired with three days remaining in the season.
Nakken was a softball star at Sacramento State from 2009-2012 and has been working as a coach on the Giants staff since Kapler hired her in January 2020.
