NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has never shied away from experimenting with the NBA All-Star Game format throughout the years.
From introducing the Elam Ending to implementing the “Captain” format for picking teams, Silver has always been open to change.
Meanwhile, recently he mentioned that the NBA is contemplating a return to the classic East vs. West format for the All-Star Game in the upcoming season.

In a conversation with Stephen A. Smith on ESPN’s First Take, Silver revealed some of the potential changes the league is considering for the 2024 NBA All-Star Game, which will take place in Indianapolis.
"We're looking at some potential changes in format in Indianapolis this year, maybe a return to something more traditional in terms of how the teams are presented."

“We went to this captain, draft notion,” Silver said. “But clearly, historically, it was East vs West. So that’s something we are looking at. A lot of it comes down to reinforcing with our players and our teams how important this is for the fans.”
While the days of the All-Star Game being highly competitive may seem to have faded away, a return to the traditional East vs. West format could be a way to bring back the simplicity and nostalgia of the game for fans.
