It is difficult to envision the WWE without its co-founder Vince McMahon at the helm calling the shots. However, since he decided to step down in 2022 due to his involvement in sexual assault allegations, that has been the case. Paul Levesque, also known as “Triple H” during his time as a WWE wrestler, stepped up in relief of McMahon and has operated as the Chief Content Officer for the WWE ever since.
Since then, McMahon has returned to the WWE in 2023 but now has a reduced role. In an attempt to regain power and control over the WWE, McMahon decided to sell the company to Endeavor. However, McMahon’s plan may not give him the results he initially hoped for.
Multiple media outlets such as the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and Sports Illustrated have highlighted that Endeavor’s CEO, Ari Emanuel, has called for McMahon to be phased out of the WWE’s creative plans. While the circumstances surrounding McMahon and his decision to leave the WWE are inappropriate and distasteful, the outcome of the allegations may have been the best-case scenario for the WWE.
Not only will WWE continue after McMahon, but it also continues to do better without him. Over the past year, WWE events have continued to sell out and break gate records regularly. This doesn’t bode well for McMahon, who has been less involved with the brand during that span due to his legal issues.
