The Philadelphia Phillies find themselves just two games away from a second consecutive appearance in the MLB World Series. Over time, Philadelphia has become known as a sports town filled with dedicated fans. However, Miami Marlins former president David Samson doesn’t share that sentiment regarding Philadelphia’s devotion to the Phillies.

Samson recently appeared on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz and as a former team president of the Phillies divisional rival, it is only natural for the Phillies and their current playoff run to come up in conversation.

During that conversation, Samson spoke very candidly regarding the city of Philadelphia and their loyalty to the Phillies franchise.

“As for Philly fans, I can’t stand them,” Samson stated. He went on to describe further in detail what specifically about Phillies fans rubs him the wrong way.

“…in Philly, there were years where they were not in the playoffs and it’s quiet and they’re grumpy and they’re rude and it’s empty. And now all of a sudden, it’s a bunch of frontrunners who are going crazy and cheering,” Samson added to his initial comments.

Samson didn’t mince his words. He went on to mention that the Phillies fanbase isn’t “even in the top five fanbases in all of baseball.” Even after his time as the president of the Marlins has come to an end, it’s clear that the Phillies organization made a lasting impression on Samson.

Game 3 of the NLCS between the Phillies and Arizona Diamondbacks is set to take place today, Oct. 19, at 5:07 p.m. ET. The Phillies will look to extend their series lead to 3-0 in Arizona.
