Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams has been shy about making his frustrations known in recent weeks. After the Raiders Week 7 loss to the Chicago Bears, Adams praised the Bears for their effort but also made it known that the Raiders continue to hurt themselves.
"…not to discredit anything [the Bears] did… It’s more [about] us hurting ourselves," Adams told ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez after the game. The Bears were led by rookie and backup quarterback Tyson Bagent in this game as Justin Fields was forced to sit due to suffering a thumb injury.
Bagent, a former Division II college quarterback, filled in admirably in his first career start. He completed 21 of 29 pass attempts for 162 yards and a touchdown, adding three carries for 24 rushing yards through the ground.
The Raiders were led by their backup quarterback as well. 15-year veteran Brian Hoyer was starting in place of Jimmy Garoppolo, who suffered a back injury in Week 6 that forced him to sit out this game.
Hoyer completed 17 of 32 pass attempts for 129 scoreless yards and two interceptions. The two interceptions are costly turnovers and examples that Adams could be alluding to when he said the team is hurting itself.
The 30-12 loss brings the Raiders to 3-4 through the first seven weeks of the season. While the frustration continues to mount for Adams, he continues to air out his comments to the media. He is trying to send a message to the rest of the team on a public stage.
