The Boston Bruins have made an impressive start to the season, securing five consecutive victories. This win streak breaks the record for the longest streak to open a season by the reigning Presidents’ Trophy winner.

The Bruins are no strangers to success, as they achieved a historic regular season last year, earning the most points (135) and wins (65) in NHL history.

However, they are well aware of the challenges faced by previous Presidents’ Trophy winners.

As the Bruins prepare for their first-round playoff series against the Florida Panthers, they are in high spirits, coming off a strong finish to the regular season.

“They were in our shoes last year as Presidents’ Trophy winners,” Boston’s first-year coach Jim Montgomery said. “And I think since the All-Star break, the record is one of the top six teams in the league.”

They won their final eight games and an impressive 15 out of 16. On the other hand, the Panthers also enter the playoffs after a successful run, clinching their wild-card spot with a six-game winning streak.

Although they lost their last two games, the Panthers are eager to make their mark in the postseason.

The Bruins have their sights set on the ultimate goal – lifting the Stanley Cup. They aim to become the first Presidents’ Trophy winner since the 2013 Chicago Blackhawks to accomplish this feat.

Interestingly, it was the Blackhawks who defeated the Bruins in Game 6 that year, celebrating their victory at TD Garden.

The Panthers, too, last year, they made it past the first round of the playoffs for the first time since 1996.

However, their journey was cut short as they were swept in the next round by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

When asked about his team’s impressive records, Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark kept his focus on the ultimate prize – the Stanley Cup.

“For us, it’s the Stanley Cup. That’s all that matters,” said Ullmark, “Records are meant to be broken,” he said. “But once you have the hardware, it can never be taken away from you.”

Ullmark, who led the league in wins (40), goals against average (1.89), and save percentage (.938), emphasized that the team’s primary goal is to secure the championship.
