Smart paper-pushing by Bills executives sees Dion Dawkins signing a revised contract, freeing up wage cap ahead of trade deadline

The Bills will be looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the October 31 trade deadline.

The Buffalo team have restructured left tackle Dion Dawkin’s contract leaving wiggle room for a trade.

The 4-3 Bills are facing an injury crisis and have signed Dawkins from a base salary to a performance bonus of $3.9 million.

This means their revised wage cap frees up an opportunity to pick up defensive players while also casting an eye out for a wide receiver.

The Bills, who looked like playoff certainties two weeks ago have lost DaQuan Jones, Matt Milano and Tre’Davious White through injuries.

Bills HC Brandon Beane is keeping his cards close to his chest, but the timing of the restructure is, (ahem) fortuitous.

The Bills lost their week seven encounter 25-29 against the under-fire Patriots, and this has seemingly put p0ressure on the Buffalo coaching staff.

The Bills will next play the Buccaneers on Friday night, as they look to catch the AFC East leaders Miami Dolphins, who are 5-2.
