Owner Jerry Jones says Cowboys belong in “upper echelons” of NFL

The Dallas Cowboys, also known as “America’s Team,” have become one of the most popular teams in American sports. However, popularity doesn’t win games, nor does it garner the respect of your peers. Owner Jerry Jones feels that people need to respect the Cowboys.

During his weekly radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jones stated that he feels the Cowboys deserve to be mentioned in the “upper echelons” of NFL teams. At 4-2, the Cowboys currently tied for the fourth-best record in the NFC.

However, one of the teams ahead of the Cowboys clobbered them in a meeting earlier this year. The San Francisco 49ers embarrassed the Cowboys 42-10 on Monday Night Football in Week 5 when the two teams met.

Jones acknowledged this in his statement: “I’m not going to say we belong on the field with San Fran, and we haven’t played Philly, but we’ve anticipated Philadelphia being what they look like. I don’t want to go that far, but we’re in the upper echelon.”

While the Cowboys have gotten off to an impressive 4-2 start, they have beaten some of the more disappointing teams in the NFL to get to this point. This season, they’ve defeated the New York Jets/Giants, New England Patriots, and Los Angeles Chargers, none of which have a winning record.

Their two losses came to the 49ers, who are one of the best teams in the NFL, and the 1-6 Arizona Cardinals. While the loss to the 49ers was expected by most, Jones stated: “I would’ve liked to have played better against the 49ers.”

The performance against the 49ers wasn’t a very positive endorsement to validate Jones’ stance that the Cowboys are among the elite teams in the NFL.
