Singing the national anthem before the game is both an honor and a privilege for those who get selected to do it. With that being said, each artist tries to add their flare/twist to the performance to make it unique. However, rapper Flavor Flav’s version was unique in its way.

On Sunday, the Milwaukee Bucks hosted the Atlanta Hawks, and Flavor Flav was selected as a special guest to perform the national anthem in front of the crowd at Fiserv Forum. It was a dream come true for Flavor Flav, who referred to performing the national anthem as a “long time bucket list item,” on X (also known as Twitter).

“I can’t live my life worried about what people might say about me. I won’t let that stop me from trying new things and doing things I wanna do,” he added on X.

That’s a great mindset to have, especially given the criticism and social media reactions by NBA fans in response to Flavor Flav’s rendition of the national anthem.

A user on X who goes by the username Lord Mamba Stark replied to ESPN’s Shannon Sharpe’s thread of the performance asking if Flavor Flav’s performance was “Worse than Fergie?”

Fergie is a popular American musician who was selected to sing the national anthem at the 2020 NBA All-Star Game and her performance went viral because of the reactions players had while she was singing.

While many people poked fun at Flavor Flav for his efforts, he can now say he’s crossed something off his bucket list.
