The Bruins faced a crucial decision regarding Poitras’ entry-level contract. If he played in his 10th game, which is set to be against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night, his contract would be activated.
However, if he was sent back to the OHL’s Guelph Storm before reaching his 10th game, the contract would not take effect.
Although Poitras still has the option to return to the OHL, the Bruins have been impressed by his performance so far and have chosen to keep him at the NHL level.
As a second-round pick in 2022, Poitras has already made a significant impact in the nine games he has played.
He has accumulated five points, showcasing his ability to score goals and make assists.
What sets Poitras apart is his fearlessness in battling for possession in the dirty areas of the ice. Despite his size, he has proven to be a valuable asset in puck battles.
Throughout these nine games, Poitras has been flexible in playing on various lines. Regardless of the situation or his linemates, he has consistently risen to the occasion.
This adaptability and resilience have further solidified his place on the team.
While Poitras will undoubtedly face challenges and experience typical rookie growing pains, the Bruins recognize their desperate need for offensive skill and center depth.
Therefore, the decision to keep him in Boston was an obvious choice.
