Pressure creates unwanted emotion in any professional coach and Clemson HC Dabo Swinney showed he is fallible after all, as he reacted strongly towards a disgruntled fan.
Swinney was fielding calls on radio after another Clemson defeat and was outraged at a particular remark from an arbitrary fam named Tyler, from Spartanburg.
Tyler asked why he was being paid millions to go 4-4 and that set off the kerfuffle.
Clemson are fresh off a 24-17 loss to NC State.
“I started as the lowest-paid coach in this freakin’ business. And I’m where I am because I’ve worked my ass off every single day, and I ain’t gonna let some smart-ass kid get on this phone and create this stuff. So, if you got a problem with that, I don’t care,” said the coach.
He continued, “Your part of the problem.”
He also offered Tyler his position as head coach.
“If you wanna apply for the job, go for it. And good luck to you.”
It’s not often the always optimistic Swinney reacts so forcefully but as we said, pressure does funny things and leads to emotive outbursts.
