“Hopefully, we are still going to get to that place.” – Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell believes star QB Kirk Cousins may stay in Minnesota after season ending injury

Vikings head coach Kevin O"Connell hopes the team has not seen the last of quarterback Kirk Cousins, after a season ending injury.

Cousins is due to become a free agent in 2024 and he is reportedly open to offers.

Cousins has helped put the Vikings back into playoff contention starring in his team"s 24-10 win over the Packers before snapping his Achille tendon in the fourth quarter.

Cousins has been in great form this season, and before going down sharply had thrown 23-31 for 274 yards and two touchdowns.

“Yeah, you guys know how I feel about Kirk. Kirk knows how I feel about Kirk," O"Connell said yesterday.

The Vikings sitting in second spot in the NFC North division, trailing the 6-2 Lions but leading the 2-5 Packers and 2-6 Bears.

“I think he was playing as well as anybody in the National Football League and one of the hardest parts about coping with this … [is] the fact that he was experiencing his best season in the National Football League and where we could have gone as a team.

“Hopefully, we are still going to get to that place."

Cousins is 35 years old and will be looking for a monster payday if he can get it, so there is no doubt that if the Vikings don"t come courting, he will be moving to only his third franchise since he was drafted in 2012.

Cousins was drafted 102nd by the Redskins before being signed by Minnesota in 2018.

The four-time Pro Bowler and 2015 NFL completion percentage leader could well have played his last game for the Vikings.
