NHL Suspends Boston Bruins’ Charlie McAvoy for Four Games Over Illegal Hit to Florida Panthers’ Oliver Ekman-Larsson

The National Hockey League department concerning player safety has reportedly suspended Charlie McAvoy, the defenseman of the Boston Bruins for four games.

His suspension came in light of the illegal check to the head of Oliver Ekman-Larsson, who is the defenseman for the Florida Panthers.

According to B/R Open Ice, “Charlie McAvoy has been suspended for four games for an illegal check to the head of Oliver Ekman-Larsson”

McAvoy tied the game 2-2 in the third period and the hit from him occurred just after.

The puck was not near his stick and he flung his shoulder at Ekman-Larsson’s head. As a result, he fell while clutching down for a few moments and after he got up, he did not return to the game.

According to ESPN, the NHL regarding the suspension said, “McAvoy chooses an angle of approach that cuts across Ekman-Larsson’s body, missing his core and picking his head,”

In response to a question regarding the hit, Paul Maurice, the coach of the Florida Panthers, mentioned that McAvoy had delivered the same type of hit on Carter Verhaeghe, the Panthers forward, during the opening period.

As per ESPN, in 2019, McAvoy was suspended for a game as well. His suspension was due to the hit he delivered to Josh Anderson’s head, the forward for the Columbus Blue Jackets. In 2022, he also faced a fine and the cause was tripping.
