On “TMZ Live,” Kisha Chavis, the wife of former NBA player Joe Smith, opened up about her OnlyFans career and the financial challenges that have plagued their marriage.
Kisha, who had established herself as a singer overseas before her marriage to Joe, shed light on their turbulent journey from prosperity to financial strife.
Joe Smith, a former NBA No. 1 draft pick, once earned a staggering $61 million throughout his 16-year basketball career.
However, after taxes, and management fees, his actual take-home earnings amounted to approximately $18 million.
As per a 2018 CNBC report, Joe’s financial woes were attributed to extravagant spending habits, which included buying real estate in every city he was traded to and maintaining an impressive collection of luxury cars, including a Corvette, Bentley, and two Range Rovers.
Smith’s fortunes took a nosedive post-retirement in 2011 when he transitioned to coaching, a role that provided significantly less income compared to his NBA days.
As a result, their income plummeted, and their extravagant lifestyle in the suburbs of Atlanta put them in a deep financial hole.
Amidst this financial turmoil, Kisha decided to create an OnlyFans account more than a year ago to improve their dire financial situation.
She emphasized that it was a tough but necessary decision made out of love for Joe, who seemed to have fallen into a depression after the end of his basketball career.
In her view, Joe was not taking the initiative to reinvent his professional life, leaving her with little choice but to seek alternative means of income.
“I’m just sorry that he can’t understand that … it wasn’t a selfish decision,” Kisha says. “It was a decision that I made. I made an executive decision when my man wasn’t taking the lead. I really love Joe.”
Kisha revealed that Joe only recently discovered her OnlyFans account through a “friend” who informed him about it.
His reaction was reportedly fierce, to the point where he decided to live separately from Kisha.
Despite the apparent strain on their relationship, Kisha expressed her desire to work on their marriage, hoping that Joe would eventually come to understand her decision and move past their current issues.
The couple, who met through mutual friends in 2012, tied the knot in 2018 after several years of dating.
Their wedding was even featured on the reality TV show “Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta.”
While their journey has taken an unexpected turn, Kisha remains optimistic that their love will prevail, and their financial struggles will not lead to divorce.
In a career spanning an impressive 16 seasons, Joe Smith donned the jerseys of 12 different teams.
Notably, his stints with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Milwaukee Bucks stand out as prominent chapters in his storied career.
