“This is why LeBron James is the GOAT” – ESPN pundit Kendrick Perkins hails the King’s exploits in August seasons

It is remarkable to think what Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is doing at 38 years old. James continues to defy Father Time and perform like one of the best players in the NBA despite his age. ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins is ready to anoint “The King” as the greatest player of all time based on his longevity and his current form at 38.

“This is why LeBron James is the GOAT (greatest of all time). Because your GOAT wasn’t doing this at 38 years of age… We have been searching and trying to find a new person to take over the throne of being the face of the league, and we can’t put a finger on that yet,” Perkins said on ESPN’s First Take.

James has gotten off to a sensational start to the 2023-24 NBA season as he looks to get the Lakers back to the Western Conference Finals for a second consecutive season. Through five games, the Lakers are 3-2 and in a three-way tie for fifth place in the West.

Through the first five games, James is averaging 24.6 points per game to go with 9.2 rebounds and 6.6 assists while shooting 56.5 percent from the field and 35.5 percent from beyond the arc. He’s also been a factor on the defensive end, averaging 1.4 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.

Until someone takes the throne that Perkins is alluding to from James, his status as the face of the NBA and arguably the greatest player of all time stands and it is tough to blame Perkins for feeling the way he does.
