The Seattle Seahawks recently made a notable deadline acquisition by trading for defensive lineman Leonard Williams from the New York Giants.
However, according to a league source mentioned by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it’s unlikely that Williams will sign an extension during the season.
No extension is expected this season for new Seahawks DL Leonard Williams; it's unclear whether the team or the player wish to wait. https://t.co/HfSIi1Qu5f

The deal between the Seahawks and the Giants included a 2024 second-round pick and a 2025 fifth-rounder.
At this time, it remains uncertain whether the team or the player wants to delay contract negotiations.
Leonard Williams, the sixth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, is currently in the final year of a three-year, $63 million contract that was signed in 2021.
After this season, Williams is set to become a free agent. The Seahawks’ acquisition of Williams marks a significant move by general manager John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll, reminiscent of their acquisition of safety Quandre Diggs from the Detroit Lions in 2019.
It’s worth noting that Carroll has been closely following Williams’ career due to their shared affiliation with the University of Southern California (USC).
Williams, at the age of 29, has recorded 1.5 sacks this season and has accumulated a total of 39.5 sacks throughout his career.
