Whether it be as a player, executive, or coach, Steve Kerr is amongst the most winning people in NBA history. He’s won nine combined NBA Championships as a player/coach as well as leading the Phoenix Suns to three consecutive seasons with a winning record as a front office executive from 2007-2010.

Kerr’s commitment to excellence has earned him nationwide recognition to the point where he has been tasked with being the head coach of Team USA’s Olympic basketball team. However, it has been announced that Kerr is expected to retire as the coach of Team USA following the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Kerr was a part of Team USA’s gold medal finish in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and was officially named the head coach of USA’s National Team in 2021 after spending several years as an assistant to former USA National Team head coach Gregg Popovich. Kerr also represented the USA as a player, winning gold at the 1986 FIBA World Cup. Per USA Basketball’s website, Kerr became the first National Team coach to have earned a gold medal as a player.

Under Kerr’s tutelage, the Golden State Warriors have had one of the more historic runs in NBA history. Kerr became only the third coach in NBA history to win three championships in their first four seasons as a head coach, joining legends such as Phil Jackson and John Kundla. Additionally, the Warriors set the all-time single-season record for wins (73) during the 2015-16 season.

Even though it will be Kerr’s final season with Team USA, his impact on USA basketball will go beyond the 2024 Paris Olympics and he will continue to make his presence felt in the NBA as the Warriors look to win a fifth championship in 10 seasons.
