Jalen Hurts, the Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback, displayed incredible perseverance and determination in a recent game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Despite suffering a painful knee injury, Hurts refused to leave the field and ended up leading his team to a 28-23 victory.
During the second quarter of the game, Hurts took a hard hit to his left knee from DeMarcus Lawrence’s helmet.
While he managed to stay on the field for one more play, he eventually limped off and headed to the locker room just before halftime.
His teammates, who have witnessed his resilience in the past, were unsure if he would be able to continue playing.
“I had no idea how he was feeling,” left tackle Jordan Mailata said. “And I came in at halftime and the guy was walking around perfect with an IV bag, saying, ‘Let’s go. We gotta get this s— rolling.’”
To everyone’s surprise, Hurts emerged from the tunnel for the second half and immediately orchestrated a 60-yard touchdown drive, giving his team the lead.
“I don’t like it being that way,” Hurts said. “I’d love to be all good but, as I said, I’d do anything for this city and for my teammates. It takes what it takes and that’s simply put. Whatever it takes and I’m just happy that we were able to gut out this win and we showed so much resilience.”
Despite some struggles later in the game, Hurts’ performance in the third quarter played a crucial role in the Eagles’ victory. He completed 17 out of 23 passes for 207 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Additionally, he rushed for 36 yards and scored a touchdown on a quarterback sneak.
Now, with the Eagles heading into a bye week, Hurts and his injured knee will have ample time to rest and recover. The team currently boasts an impressive 8-1 record, the best in the NFL.
Their next game is scheduled for November 20th against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football.
As for Hurts’ recovery plan, he admitted uncertainty but acknowledged that rest would be beneficial.
Hurts said, “I don’t think the bye week could have come at a better time.” No kidding.
