“I’m concerned about that,” Seahawks HC Pete Carroll Said Regarding QB Geno Smith’s Recent Slew of Turnovers

Despite being 5-3 through the first nine weeks of the 2023 NFL season, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is not satisfied, especially when it comes to the play of his franchise quarterback. After an emphatic 37-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Carroll pointed out that he was not happy with Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith’s recent slew of turnovers, expressing concern that this is turning more into a habit than a trend.

“I’m concerned about that,” Carroll stated in his postgame comments when he was asked about Smith and the Seahawks propensity to turnover the football. The Seahawks had two turnovers against the Ravens in Week 9, upping their total to eight over the past four games. Carroll knows that Smith and the offense need to do a better job of taking care of the football if they want to continue competing with the San Francisco 49ers for first place in the NFC West standings.

“Up until this fame, it took us to first place, whatever the heck we’ve been doing. We didn’t play like a first-place team today. With those kinds of turnovers, it’s really hard to win,” Carroll said.”

Smith completed 13 of his 28 pass attempts for 157 scoreless yards and an interception and also lost a fumble after taking a sack late in the first half. It was a rough day at the office for Smith and the Seahawks, but they’re still tied for first place in the NFC West. A Week 10 matchup against the Washington Commanders is up next for the Seahawks as they try to get back on track.
