The New York Jets failed to score a touchdown in their 27-6 loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Chargers on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. After the game, Jets head coach Robert Saleh reflected on the loss and pointed out the team’s “self-inflicted wounds” as a key reason for the loss.

“It was a lot of self-inflicted wounds,” Saleh stated via the Jets official website. “It felt like anytime we got momentum going, we just shot ourselves in the foot with penalties and turnovers. It’s not good enough,” Saleh added.

The Jets committed eight penalties and lost three fumbles while quarterback Zach Wilson took eight sacks. It was a rough performance for Wilson and the Jets offensive unit, who failed to get much of anything going. Wilson has now failed to score a touchdown in two of his past three games.

Wilson shared Saleh’s sentiments after the game, referencing the “Self-inflicted wounds” that plagued the Jets throughout the game. The Jets signal-caller completed 33 of his 49 pass attempts for 263 scoreless yards, losing two costly fumbles.

While Wilson gets a lot of the blame/criticism as the quarterback of the team, Saleh made it clear that the problem goes beyond the Jets quarterback. “It’s everyone,” Saleh said. “Dropping passes, committing penalties, not giving ourselves a chance to get in the flow, got to own up to things and have to be better at it,” he added.

The Jets next opportunity to get back on track will be in Week 10 when they travel to Las Vegas to face the Raiders on NBC’s Sunday Night Football.
