NBA and Diamond Sports Groups Agree to Deal for Broadcasting Rights

Despite filing for bankruptcy less than a year ago, Diamond Sports Group (DSG) seems to be trending in the right direction after coming to terms with the NBA on a deal for the league’s broadcasting rights through the end of the current season. Next, DSG is eyeing a similar agreement with the NHL per statements made by the company in a court filing.

DSN runs the regional sports networks for half of the teams in the NBA. So when/if the court approves this deal, it will clarify half of the league and their respective broadcast schedule(s) over the 2023-24 NBA season. Teams such as the Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Miami Heat, Indiana Pacers, and the San Antonio Spurs are affected by this deal among others.

Additionally, DSN has the rights to nearly 12 NHL franchises’ broadcasting rights and is looking to resolve their legal matter in court so that all parties can move forward. DSN also has the broadcasting rights to a dozen MLB teams. However, some of the bigger market franchises have their own regional sports networks, such as the New York Yankees and YES Network and the Chicago Cubs and Marquee. Those teams are not impacted by these ongoing negotiations.

It is up to the court to determine when all of these moves become official. The legal system must run its course before DSG can move forward with these major American sports organizations and franchises, but things are trending in the right direction.
