Tonight, the San Antonio Spurs will be facing the New York Knicks, where rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama will be making his highly-anticipated debut in Madison Square Garden. While many have been mesmerized by what Wembanyama can do on the basketball court given his size and skills, Knicks center Mitchell Robinson is looking forward to the challenge of defending him.
Robinson is regarded as one of the best rim protectors in the NBA and his combination of blend and athleticism have helped him become a defensive stalwart. Robinson knows that to be the best, you have to beat the best, and Wembanyama has quickly emerged as one of the best young players in the NBA in his brief time in the league.
"I’m going to play him just like he’s one of those like Kristaps Porzingis, kind of [players]… I kind of got a feel for how it should go," Robinson said.
The comparison to Porzingis stems from their size and ability to stretch the floor with their shooting ability on the offensive end of the floor. Both Porzingis and Wembanyama are seven-footers who are capable of handling and shooting the ball and Robinson has faced the former throughout his career, so he has an idea of what to expect from the latter.
The Knicks and Spurs game will be televised nationally on ESPN and is set to tip off at 7:30 p.m. ET. Both teams have a 3-4 record through their first seven games and will look to get back to .500 in tonight’s meeting with the matchup between Robinson and Wembanyama set to be one of the more exciting storylines of the evening.
