Kansas City Chiefs Wide Receiver, Justyn Ross, is facing serious legal troubles that have escalated from a misdemeanor to a felony charge following an incident of alleged domestic violence.
According to a District Court of Johnson County (Kansas) criminal complaint, Ross was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence and property damage, leading to his booking into the Johnson County Adult Detention Center.
The NFL swiftly responded by placing Ross on the exempt list, prohibiting him from practicing or attending games.
As reported by the Kansas City Star on November 3, the incident unfolded on October 23 when Ross reportedly discovered his girlfriend’s infidelity.
It sparked a heated confrontation, during which Ross allegedly threw her belongings out of their apartment in Shawnee.
The police responded to the disturbance at 3 p.m., with Ross’s girlfriend reporting a verbal altercation escalating to a physical one.
Ross purportedly pushed her, threw her to the floor, and damaged her belongings, including a laptop, cellphone, jewelry, and her Mercedes.
The victim claimed Ross scratched her Mercedes with knife, resulting in damages under $1,000.
Ross, when questioned by officers, admitted to putting her belongings out and breaking the computer but denied damaging anything belonging to the victim.
He asserted ownership of the damaged computer, attributing his actions to the revelation of infidelity.
Witness accounts from two neighbors and Ross’s grandmother corroborate the victim’s version of events.
One neighbor observed Ross pushing the woman, while another witnessed him running a knife across the victim’s Mercedes.
Ross has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is out on bond.
Court records indicate he is applying for diversion, a program that could lead to the dismissal of charges upon fulfilling specified terms and conditions.
The alleged victim suffered minor injuries, as documented in a Shawnee Police Department offense report.
Ross is scheduled to appear in court on December 4.
At 23, Ross joined the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in May 2022 after missing the entire 2022 season due to offseason foot surgery.
Despite the legal challenges, Ross has participated in all seven of the Chiefs’ games this season, recording three catches for 34 yards. His career stats stand at GP: 7, REC: 3, AVG: 11.3.
