Former NFL Media Member Jim Trotter exposes NFL for ‘ambushing’ him and Steve Wyche regarding their podcast

Amid his ongoing lawsuit against the NFL for wrongful termination, Jim Trotter hopped on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz to air out some of his frustrations publicly and expose the NFL for ‘ambushing’ him and podcast co-host Steve Wyche regarding their podcast known as Huddle and Flow.

Trotter prefaced the story by mentioning his and Wyche’s proposal to do a podcast “from the perspective of two black men covering the NFL” in 2018 when he was a member of the NFL’s media team. The idea was put on ice until racial injustice became a main topic of conversation a couple of years later, when the NFL elected to allow Trotter and Wyche to move forward with the podcast.

Trotter and Wyche were hesitant at first, but they concluded that the show could create positive change, so they went ahead and began the podcast series. Shortly thereafter, the NFL was offered a large sum of money by Intuit TurboTax to sponsor the show and Trotter requested that he and Wyche receive a portion of the offer for their contributions.

“We’re putting together the show. We’re doing everything. We book our own guests. We do our own research… the only thing the NFL does is take a link we give them and put it on some sort of social media site,” Trotter stated.

Following their request to be compensated for their efforts, an “ambush” occurred. Trotter and Wyche were swarmed by “five or six people,” consisting of some of the NFL’s top media members. “Mind you, we didn’t ask to meet with any of these people,” Trotter added.

Huddle and Flow ended after one season with the NFL refusing to pay Trotter and Wyche, or any podcast for that matter.
