Despite suffering a torn Achilles and being ruled out for the remainder of the season, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has found ways to continue making a positive impact on the team. The players have rallied around Cousins and his injury, with many being seen wearing shirts to honor him last week during pregame warmups. He’s also helped his backup quarterbacks prepare for the coming weeks, including newcomer Joshua Dobbs.
Dobbs was traded to the Vikings before this season’s trade deadline and was expected to back up rookie quarterback Jaren Hall in Week 9 against the Falcons while he gets acclimated to his new surroundings and teammates, but that all changed when Hall suffered a concussion during the game. Hall’s injury forced the Vikings to put Dobbs into the game just days after being traded. The latter stepped in to seize the opportunity, propelling the Vikings to victory.
Now, the Vikings have decided to move forward with Dobbs as their starter, who praised Cousins for his willingness to help make his transition to a new team as smooth as possible. “The first thing he said was, ‘If you need anything, want to know more about the offense, whatever you need – don’t hesitate to call, text,’” Dobbs said regarding Cousins.
“We actually share the same agent, so I was able to get connected with him pretty quickly once I got up here, and it’s been great to have him as a resource. He’s been awesome,” Dobbs stated.
The Dobbs-Vikings era has gotten off to a great start. Cousins’ role as a calming and informative presence cannot be overstated.
