Is the NBA Considering a Two-Day Draft Format? Changes on the Horizon as Teams Discuss a Potential Shift in Draft Strategy

Amidst changes in the NBA happening recently another one is up the sleeve as the Commissioner Adam Silver has reportedly stated some changes regarding the NBA Draft. 

The changes regarding the NBA Draft are that now onwards the Draft day will be extending to two days instead of one which was followed till now. 

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic “As part of meeting today with general managers, the NBA discussed possibility of extending Draft format to two days beginning as soon as 2024, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.”

He also shared, “The concept has been increasingly discussed in recent meetings as team executives believe they could better utilize more time for both first and second rounds.”

With the novel changes the NBA wants to remodel their Draft strategy after the NFL’s. As compared to the NBA, the National Football League has more picks to sort through however, NBA teams could offer more times to clubs to select their players and might also turn the Draft days into something in which fans might be interested in. 

This idea eventually might pick up speed and it would also rely on their broadcast partner network, ESPN.
