Scary scenes as Virginia RB Perris Jones is carted off field after hit in game against Louisville

Virginia running back Perris Jones is reportedly doing “ok” and is moving his extremities after suffering a sickening blow in their match against the 11th ranked Louisville yesterday.

Jones took a significant helmet to helmet knock and was immobilized immediately, and while Virginia’s Malik Washington scored a TD from the fumble all eyes were on the stricken Jones, with Louisville staff closest to him and always rendering medical assistance.

Virginia head coach Tony Elliott said after the game, “It’s a very, very difficult reality of the sport that we play.

“Every play can end that way. You don’t wish that for anybody, and I know one thing, PJ’s a tough young man. He lays it on the line every time he goes out there for this football team.”

The Virginia players, many on their knees and in tears, and while the TD gave them the lead it was Louisville that picked up the 31-24 win.

The loss was put in perspective as Jones was undergoing scans. His immediate medical diagnosis is still to be delivered.

“Believing and praying he’s going to have a full recovery. I’m putting that in the Lord’s hands, and I’m asking for that in advance and believing that’s going to be the case.”

Get better soon Jones.
