In response to the sign-stealing allegations surrounding head coach Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines Division I college football program, Harbaugh has been suspended by the Big Ten conference for the final three games of the 2023 regular season. Charles Woodson, an alumnus and the 1997 Heisman Trophy winner, made his frustration known and called the ongoing saga surrounding his alma mater “bull****” on national television.
During ESPN’s College GameDay this weekend, the No. 3-ranked Wolverines faced the No. 10-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions. So, Woodson appeared during the pregame segment as an analyst to assess the game and the conversation about Harbaugh’s suspension came up in discussion. When Woodson got his chance to speak on the matter, he didn’t hold back.
“Am I mad? I’m only mad because I think the whole thing is bull****,” Woodson said regarding the Big Ten’s decision to suspend Harbaugh for the remainder of the regular season.
Woodson went on about how none of the investigative evidence suggests Harbaugh was aware and/or involved in the sign-stealing scandal to any degree, making his suspension undeserving.
The timing for a suspension couldn’t be much worse as Michigan looks to close the book on their season and remain undefeated with an eye towards the College Football Playoff. Now, they will have to do it without their head coach at the helm.
Michigan named Sherrone Moore, the team’s offensive coordinator, interim head coach for the remainder of the regular season and he helped propel the Wolverines to a 24-15 road victory over the Nittany Lions this past weekend, dedicating the win to Harbaugh after the game.
Woodson, Moore, and the rest of the Wolverines are rallying around Harbaugh and using his dilemma as a form of motivation.
