The Las Vegas football team has seen a positive shift under interim head coach Antonio Pierce, winning their first two games, including a recent 16-12 victory over the New York Jets.

One standout player who has caught the attention of his teammates is rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell. Despite not having the flashiest stats, O’Connell’s composure and ability to make crucial plays have impressed his colleagues.

Davante Adams, one of the team’s star receivers, spoke highly of O’Connell, saying, “He’s as cool as the other side of the pillow.”

Adams commends the rookie’s poise and performance in high-pressure situations, noting that it’s not something often seen in a first-year quarterback.

“It was impressive, man. He’s as cool as the other side of the pillow,” Adams said postgame. “Dude is not a rookie. By years he is, but by action — and like you said, that poise that he has in those types of situations, you don’t see that often from a rookie quarterback.

“Like I said last week, the way he commands the huddle, the way he talks to us, the communication and confidence. Throw a pick down there early on in the game and the way he bounced back is impressive. So, I’m glad he is our guy.”

O’Connell, a fourth-round pick in this year’s draft, has completed 63.5 percent of his passes for 675 yards, with two touchdowns and three interceptions in four appearances, including three starts this season.

The win against the Jets showcased O’Connell’s ability to deliver when it mattered most. In the fourth quarter, he connected with rookie tight end Michael Mayer for a crucial 7-yard touchdown, securing the lead.

Looking ahead, O’Connell will face tougher challenges in the coming weeks.

The team is set to take on the Miami Dolphins and the Kansas City Chiefs, formidable opponents with strong defensive units.
