Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans has to feel a sense of relief after his dropped touchdown didn’t cost his team the game. Evans was kicking himself after dropping what would’ve been a wide-open seven-yard touchdown catch. Thankfully, he had a chance to make up for it the very next drive, hauling in a 22-yard touchdown that gave the Buccaneers a 17-3 lead.
Evans was quick to acknowledge he messed up after the game, admitting that he began to celebrate prematurely before dropping the ball. "I was wide open, and I dropped it," said Evans during his postgame comments. He went on to add that he "Got a little cocky thinking about what I [he] he was going to give the ball to."
It’s much easier to joke about the matter now that it didn’t have an impact on the outcome of the game, but Evans still doesn’t seem too pleased and expects better from himself as a four-time Pro Bowler. "I don’t want to talk about it. I got what I deserved," Evans stated.
It could’ve been an even bigger day for Evans, but he still managed to haul in six receptions for 143 yards and a touchdown. He was the only Buccaneers receiver to record more than 54 yards and accounted for over half of quarterback Baker Mayfield’s passing production.
Evans’ efforts propelled the Bucs to 4-5 with a matchup against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 11. Hopefully, he will learn from his mistake and avoid dropping any more touchdowns moving forward.
