The Commanders may have lost to the Seahawks 29-26 on Sunday in heart-breaking fashion, but rookie quarterback Sam Howell"s performance has the team buzzing.
Howell three for 312 yards and three touchdowns and has created a feel-good factor in Washington despite the team dropping to 4-6.
Commanders head coach Ron Rivera was full of praise for the line caller and said he put the team "in a position to win."
Right guard Sam Cosmi was more effusive saying, "it’s like, wow".
Howell was the 144th pick in the 2022 draft and the North Carolina Tar Heels player seems set to defy college expectations.
Of the game, Howell said, “Obviously, we did some good things there at the end, but . . . we had plenty of opportunities for us to take control of that football game; didn’t make the plays that were needed. . .. It just seemed like we were waiting, [like] someone was going to take control of the game."
Talking to the Athletic.com he went further, "We made some plays down the stretch, but got to be better throughout the game to beat good teams like that."
Howell had pulled the team to 26-26 but lost out to a 43-yard field goal from Jason Myers.
