The New England Patriots have announced they will be waiving cornerback Jack Jones after they selected him in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft from Arizona State University per NFL Network insider, Mike Garafolo.

After establishing himself as a serviceable piece of the Patriots secondary last season, Jones has quickly been phased out of the defensive game plan as this season has progressed. Last week, when the Patriots traveled to Frankfurt to face the Indianapolis Colts as part of the NFL’s International Series, Jones played just 10 snaps.

Jones has suited up for just five games this season after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 1 that forced him to begin the season on injured reserve. In the five games he’s played, Jones has amassed just 12 combined tackles and one pass deflection.

Not only was Jones struggling to see the field, he also battled legal issues in his rookie season after he was arrested on June 16 for possessing two guns with ammunition inside a bag at Boston’s Logan Airport. Per the legal documents, the gun charges were dropped shortly thereafter and Jones agreed to serve one year of pre-trial probation in addition to contributing 48 hours of community service.

Jones’ agent, J. Tooson released a statement regarding the matter: "Certainly we want to thank the Patriot organization for drafting Jack [Jones], Tooson said. "Jack [Jones] is an immense talent and looks forward to making an immediate contribution on his next team as soon as Sunday."

While Jones’ agent remains hopeful that his client will find a new team to play for sooner than later, it could take some time for Jones to land on a new roster.
