Per ESPN’s Michael DiRocco, Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Zay Jones has been arrested and is facing a misdemeanor domestic battery charge. Jones’ first court appearance was scheduled to take place at 9 a.m. this morning.
The Jaguars released a statement to ESPN that reads: “We are aware of the situation and are in the midst of gathering information. We will have no further comment at this time.”
The 28-year-old wide receiver has missed each of the Jaguars’ last four games as he continues to deal with a nagging knee injury that forced him to miss Weeks 3 and 4 of the season as well.
In the three games Jones has played in 2023, he has converted 18 targets into eight receptions for 78 yards and two touchdowns.
Jones is in his second season as a member of the Jaguars, but was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft and had a stint with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders in between.
He had been ramping up his practice reps in recent weeks in hopes of returning to the field sooner than later, but his status for Week 11 and beyond remains in question following his arrest.
