The Dallas Cowboys suffered a loss in the game against the San Francisco 49ers, as the concluding score was 42-10. The Week 5 game also resulted in an injury to their linebacker, Leighton Vander Esch.
The linebacker sustained a neck injury and is now placed on injured reserve, which will be for the remainder of the season. According to the NFL via 105.3 The Fan, Jerry Jones, the owner of the Cowboys, shared this unfortunate news.
As per NFL via the Dallas Morning News, Jerry Jones, shared, “I would say that’s accurate,”
“We had just completely left it up to how he was evolving. But of course, it’s a very significant loss for us. He’s an integral part of that defense out there. We just wish him well. The nature of his potential injury here causes me to really think longer term and beyond what it means for next week or beyond what it means for next month relative to the team. It has everything to do with what’s in his best interest.”
In this current season, Vander Esch had collected thirty tackles and one fumbled recovery, turning that into a touchdown. The talented linebacker, Vander Esch suffered a neck injury in 2019 and was later diagnosed with “cervical spinal stenosis”.
This physiological condition is distinguished by the fact that the spinal column narrows in the neck area. Vander Esch also underwent surgery in 2020. The linebacker had played in 45 games since having the surgery. He also signed a two-year contract with the Cowboys.
Regarding his future, the owner Jones, further shared, “There are a lot of factors involved,”

“But he just really needs to see how this continues to heal, and then go from that point as to whether or not he would want to continue to say, expose himself to injury.”
