“Several small scratches on victim’s neck” – Zay Jones’ arrest stems from allegedly assaulting his baby’s mother over custody dispute

Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Zay Jones has become entangled in legal troubles following his arrest on Monday, charged with misdemeanor domestic battery.

The allegations revolve around an altercation with the mother of his child, during which an argument reportedly led to injuries on her neck.

Responding to a distress call at a Jacksonville apartment around 2:20 pm ET, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office detailed that the dispute escalated when the woman, visiting with their child, disclosed plans to return to Orlando.

The situation reportedly reached a point where a visibly upset Jones engaged in a physical altercation with the woman.

Upon the sheriff’s office’s arrival, a deputy observed “several small scratches on the victim’s neck, consistent with marks from a fingernail,” leading to Jones’ subsequent arrest on charges of domestic battery causing bodily harm—a first-degree misdemeanor.

He was taken into custody and booked into the Duval County Jail at 6:03 p.m. ET on Monday.

Jones made his initial court appearance on Tuesday, where he was granted a $2,503 bond.

If convicted in Florida, Jones could face penalties of up to 180 days in jail and fines up to $1,000, along with potential additional consequences.

This incident compounds an already challenging season for Jones with the Jaguars.

In his second season with the team, persistent knee soreness has limited his playing time.

Despite participating in only three games, Jones managed to secure eight catches for 78 yards and two touchdowns.

Jones began his NFL career as the Buffalo Bills’ second-round pick in 2017.

After approximately two full seasons with the Bills, he was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders midway through his third season.

Jones concluded the 2021 season with the Raiders before joining the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In 2022 season, Jones’s inked a lucrative three-year, $24 million deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

A meticulous examination of Jones’s 2021 campaign with the Raiders reveals a consistent performer who appeared in all 17 games, earning nine starts.

His stat line, boasted 47 receptions for 546 yards and a lone touchdown.

The transition to the Jaguars in 2022 saw Jones elevate his game to new heights.

Over 16 appearances, he became a linchpin in Jacksonville’s offensive arsenal, amassing an impressive 82 receptions for 823 yards and contributing five touchdowns.

Rewinding to his rookie year in 2017, Jones in 15 games, 10 of which he started, he notched 316 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

As of now, Jones’s cumulative career stats include 253 catches, 2,707 yards, and 16 touchdowns.
