“The cancer is gone, which is amazing news.” Dickie V gives positive health update but not ready for basketball broadcast return

Sports broadcasting legend Dick Vitale is reportedly cancer free after treatment but his return to ESPN has been delayed.

The 84-year-old Hall of Famer was diagnosed with vocal cord cancer in July but has bounced back, and while not ready for air, he is in high spirits.

“While I’m disappointed with the latest developments, I remain hopeful,” Vitale said. “The cancer is gone, which is amazing news, yet the impact of the treatments has taken its toll on my voice and requires more healing.”

Dickie V was the Pistons coach back in 1979, but decided a career on a broadcasting career and lucky for viewers he did so.

The University of Detroit named their basketball court “the Dick Vitale Court” in 2011.

“With the season started, I am jumping out of my shoes to be back in the college basketball arenas, calling the game I love and being around so many great colleagues and fans. I have to listen to the medical experts, who have been so good to me, and with some more rest, I know I will be back for my 45th season. I’ve been so touched by the amazing response I’ve received,” he further said.

Dickie thanks for the memories, we will wait for the voice of basketball, an endearing reminder of the traditions of the sport.
