The Broncos’ triumph over the Bills took place in Highmark Stadium and was their first win at the venue since 2007.
The climactic moment came when kicker Wil Lutz successfully made a 36-yard field goal as the clock ran out. However, it wasn’t without some drama as Lutz’s initial kick missed its mark.
Fortunately for Denver, the Bills had 12 men on defense, resulting in a penalty and allowing Lutz another attempt that sealed the victory.
Throughout the game, the Broncos faced some challenges, including missing two extra points earlier in the “Monday Night Football” matchup. Nevertheless, they continued to fight and were able to capitalize on a critical pass interference penalty on the Bills’ Taron Johnson, which paved the way for a first-and-10 opportunity on Buffalo’s 17-yard line.
Up until the late stages of the game, the Broncos held the lead, but Bills quarterback Josh Allen managed to score a 6-yard touchdown run shortly after the two-minute warning.
Despite the Broncos’ impressive defensive performance, forcing four turnovers (two fumbles and two interceptions), the offense struggled to convert those opportunities into points, resulting in only six points off the takeaways.
This performance followed their Week 8 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, during which they forced five turnovers before their bye week.
The experience of quarterback Russell Wilson played a vital role in the Broncos’ success. Wilson, a nine-time Pro Bowler, completed 24 of his 29 pass attempts for 193 yards and threw two touchdown passes.
One of the highlights of the game was an incredible tightrope catch by Courtland Sutton, which contributed to the Broncos’ offensive success.
On the Bills’ side, Allen struggled, completing 15 of his 26 pass attempts for 177 yards. He also threw two interceptions, extending his streak of consecutive games with at least one interception to six games.
In a heartwarming moment, Bills safety Damar Hamlin made his return to the field for the first time since experiencing cardiac arrest in Week 17 of the previous season.
