Deshaun Watson injury update: Browns QB is set to undergo surgery, ending his season due to a broken bone in his throwing shoulder

The Cleveland Browns made an announcement on Wednesday regarding quarterback Deshaun Watson’s injury.

Unfortunately, it has been determined that Watson will need to undergo season-ending surgery on a broken bone in his throwing shoulder.

This news comes after Watson had already missed three games this season and had to leave the Week 7 matchup against the Colts early due to the same injury.

Prior to his injury, Watson had been the starting quarterback for the first three games of the season.

However, he was ruled out for Cleveland’s Week 4 game against the Ravens, which resulted in a disappointing 28–3 loss.

In that game, rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson took over as the starting QB. Although he completed 19-of-36 passes for 121 yards, he also threw three interceptions.

Following that game, the Browns decided to sign quarterback PJ Walker, who took the starting position following the team’s Week 5 bye.

Walker started in the games against the 49ers and Seahawks, and also filled in during the early stages of the game against Indianapolis.

Reportedly, Watson wanted to continue playing despite his injuries, but doctors advised against it, warning that further hits to his shoulder could cause it to “fall apart,” as reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Throughout this season, Watson managed to complete 105-of-171 pass attempts, accumulating 1,115 yards, seven passing touchdowns, and throwing four interceptions.

In addition, he gained 142 yards and scoring one rushing touchdown.

since signing a lucrative 5-year, $230 million deal with the Browns, Watson has only been able to play 12 games over the span of two seasons, earning $92 million in cash ($7.7 million per game).
