Major League Baseball executives have approved the relocation of the team to Las Vegas.
The Nevada city becomes the fourth home of the A"s, after starting in Philadelphia in 1901, before moving to Kansas City in 1954.
The team started out in Oakland in 1968 and now finds itself in Vegas after 55 years.
The move was not met with approval from the fans, with one shouting, “do the right thing" and keep the team in Oakland.
Fisher responded by saying he is doing the right thing.
There has been mounting pressure on the team to do something about their poor performances, both on the field and in the stands and something had to give.
Last month, relief pitcher Trevor May was vocal during his retirement announcement.
"Sell the team, dude. … Sell it, man," he said. "Let someone who actually, like, takes pride in the things they own, own something. There’s actually people who give a shit about the game. Let them do it. Take mommy and daddy’s money [Fisher’s parents founded Gap] somewhere else, dork."
After failing to get government support for a new stadium, owner John Fisher reached a $380 million agreement from Vegas, a move that was unanimously supported by all 30 MLB board members.
Thanks for the memories, Oakland.
