The head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, Jim Harbaugh, has been suspended for three games by the Big Ten in the wake of sign-stealing controversy. He served his first suspension when the Wolverines were playing against Penn State.
The League in the document also mentioned that they do not have any direct proof that Harbaugh was himself involved in the sign-stealing controversy.
As a result, he was given a three-game suspension and was also given the allowance to coach during the week, as the suspended coach “embodies the University for purposes of its football programme,” as per Yahoo Sports.
Michigan University also requested that the ban be lifted and the court allows Harbaugh to be present for their game against Ohio State. The Wolverines are currently unbeaten in their NCAA race.
The court hearing on this matter is scheduled to be conducted on Friday. According to Yahoo Sports, the official statement of the three-game ban is, “We impose this disciplinary action even though the Conference has not yet received any information indicating that Head Football Coach Harbaugh was aware of the impermissible nature of the sign-stealing scheme. This is not a sanction of Coach Harbaugh. It is a sanction against the University that, under the extraordinary circumstances presented by this offensive conduct, best fits the violation because: (1) it preserves the ability of the University’s football student-athletes to continue competing; and (2) it recognizes that the Head Coach embodies the University for purposes of its football program.”
Michigan and suspended head coach Harbaugh are of the outlook that the Big Ten went overboard in suspecting the coach in light of the sign-stealing probe, even though no evidence has been discovered against him.
More so, the Big Ten Conference has not yet received any proof that Harbaugh was himself involved in the illegal undoings at Michigan.
Recently, Harbaugh has shared his sentiments and called the Michigan Wolverines, “America’s Team.” His expressions indicate a perplexing situation, as he now seeks support. However, the fans are now separated between what the homeland’s team should be like and what it should consist of.
The reverberations are at Harbaugh now and amidst all of this he states that the Michigan Wolverines are representing what America represents. The NCAAF investigation into the scandal has the green light and is ongoing.
According to Awful Announcing, Harbaugh shares, “America loves a team that beats the odds, beats the adversity,”
“Overcomes what the naysayers, critics, so-called experts think. That’s my favorite kind of team.”
By expressing his opinions, Harbaugh has once again attracted attention to his plight and the narrative highlights his innocence rather than transparency on his part. The fans view this differently depending on varying factors.
However, ESPN’s First Take Shannon Sharpe has also expressed his clear views regarding Harbaugh’s statements.
.@ShannonSharpe says Michigan is NOT America's team 😳

He says, “Americans don’t like cheats,”
“How does America feel about Lance Armstrong, and Sammy Sosa, and Mark McGwire, and the Houston Astros?”
“Don Shula, who’s the winningest coach of all-time, you remember what he called Belichick? He called him Belicheat!”
Further saying, “Americans don’t like cheaters. They don’t! They want to believe that what they’re seeing at home is that person beat you because he was better than you. That team beat you, because they were better than you. Not because you did something that was against the rules.
“So, for Jim Harbaugh to try to pin it, ‘Oh, we’re America’s team,’ No you’re not. You’re not…Because of his smugness, because of his cavalierness, I don’t think he’s a very likable coach. I really don’t. Now, maybe his team likes him, but outside of that Michigan fanbase, and they’re gonna like anybody that’s there. I don’t think he’s very likable.”
ESPN’s Sharpe and other major personalities have opposed Harbaugh and on the other hand, Fox’s Colin Cowherd seems to be supporting the suspended coach.
The debate and support are divided and with time and legal proceedings, more clarity can be provided. Nevertheless, the message of Harbaugh seems to reach his team, as they were victorious against Penn State while still continuing their winning streak.
