During the celebration of his first American League Cy Young Award, New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole took a brief pause before acknowledging the role played by his wife, Amy Crawford, in his life and baseball journey.
When Pedro Martinez, conducting the interview on MLB Network’s broadcast, posed a question about whom Cole would most like to share the moment with.
The typically composed Cole found himself in an awkward silence, taking about eight seconds to settle on his answer.
With a wide grin and a glance at Amy, Cole finally expressed:
"I think it would probably be … it would be tough not to say Amy right next to me."
Cole continued to elaborate on her vital contributions throughout his career.
"She’s been there since I was just a kid in school and she supported me in all different aspects and journeys in our life," Cole shared.
"I take a lot of pride in going out there and representing the @Yankees organization… to be joining [other Yankees Cy Young winners] is part of a greater dream that I had as a kid."
