Since the San Francisco 49ers traded for All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey, he hasn’t been able to stop scoring touchdowns, until last week. McCaffrey had scored a touchdown in 17 straight games, tying Hall of Fame running back Lenny Moore for the NFL record for consecutive games with a touchdown. Alas, the streak was snapped in Week 10.
The 49ers gave McCaffrey every opportunity to extend the streak, giving him four touches within 10 yards of the end zone in the final stages of a blowout victory. However, the Jacksonville Jaguars defense did their best to prevent McCaffrey from scoring, which forced a turnover on downs and snapped the historic streak.
After the game, McCaffrey admitted the streak “meant a lot” to him but also acknowledged the 49ers doing right by him and giving him a chance to keep the streak alive. At the end of the day, winning is McCaffrey’s top priority. The 49ers got the job done, winning 34-3 in impressive fashion on the road against a talented Jaguars team.
“The individual statistics stuff, I think you kind of focus on at the end of the year and appreciate it for what it is. But obviously, winning is the most important thing,” McCaffrey said via 49ersWebzone.com.
With the previous streak ending, an opportunity for a new streak arises. McCaffrey will look to get back on track in Week 11 when the 49ers host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
