Now, The A’s will play their final season at the Oakland Coliseum in 2024 and will work with MLB for “interim” locations before opening a new ballpark on the Las Vegas Strip in 2028.
Athletics’ owner John Fisher said in a statement released recently,
“We are excited to begin this next chapter in Las Vegas. I want to thank the Las Vegas and Nevada community for welcoming us. We will continue to work hard to bring home more championships for our fans and for our new home in Vegas.”
As the Athletics are heading to ‘Sin City’, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred who endorsed the relocation plan said,
“There was an effort over more than a decade to find a stadium solution in Oakland. It was John Fisher’s preference. It was my preference.”
Owner Fisher also spoke for the fans in the statement, he said,
“I understand that this is an incredibly difficult day for Oakland fans, and I just want to say we gave every effort and did everything we could to try and find a solution there.”
The better news on the news is that Nevada’s state government approved $380 million in public financing for a Las Vegas Strip stadium, in 2028 for the opening of a new ballpark.
