The Denver Broncos have won four straight games following their 21-20 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on NBC’s Sunday Night Football and now find themselves with a 5-5 record, firmly in the mix for one of the three Wild Card spots in the AFC playoff picture. After the game, Broncos head coach Sean Payton said turnovers have had a role in salvaging the season.

Payton knows the team has not played their best football, including last night, citing the team’s offensive inefficiencies. He also knows that the Broncos winning the turnover battle has been enough for the team to overcome the offensive struggles.

“If you looked at the stat line you would see Minnesota did a lot of things better than us. We really struggled offensively, especially on third down… The one thing we did, we took the ball away three times and we didn’t turn it over,” Payton said after the game.

When the Broncos force more turnovers than they commit, they win games. When the Broncos commit more turnovers than they force, they lose games. It’s a simple formula for the Broncos and Payton was happy it was enough to help them win. He also knows that the team needs to find ways to improve the offense to keep their playoff hopes alive.

“We were fortunate to win. I’m proud of our fight. There’s still a lot we need to clean up, but the turnovers and the takeaways can do that for you when you’re not playing how you want to,” Payton mentioned.
