Two commentator gaffe’s across two separate games shows old Washington ‘name’ habits die hard

Veteran broadcasters are not immune to rookie mistakes, or maybe it’s a case of muscle memory, as two stalwarts slip up on Washington’s old name calling different NFL matchups this Sunday.

Long standing broadcasters Jim Nantz and Terry Bradshaw inadvertently slipped up, using the outdated name of the Washington franchise, before they became the Commanders.

Chatting on CBS during coverage of the Bills blow out win against the Jets, Nantz was calling the play when back up QB Kyle Allen entered the game and while recalling the players past experience he slipped up. He finished his train of thought then apologized.

The name situation stems from the team nickname from 1901 to 2019, before it was changed from the ‘Redskins’ to the Washington Commanders. The former name is deemed insensitive by the franchise and will not be brought back.

FOX game caller Terry Bradshaw was providing commentary of the highlights of the New York Giants’ surprise 31-19 win over Commanders.

When he slipped up fellow commentator Curt Menefee jumped in, “Washington Commanders,” he said, jumping in after Bradshaw misspoke.

“What I say?” asked Bradshaw, before realizing his mistake.

Old habits die hard.
