Quarterback Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers seem to be back on track after a midseason stretch that saw them losing three straight games, having won each of their past two games. Purdy struggled during the losing streak but has been firing on all cylinders over the past two wins and credited his change in mentality as a reason why.
“I had to get back to, man, we’ve got to go take it,” Purdy stated after the game. “We’ve got to go earn it every single game,” he added. After starting the season 5-0, it sounds like Purdy and the 49ers took their foot off the gas during the three-game skid from Weeks 6-8.
“And so getting back to that and then proving myself every drive, every play that I can be the guy for this team and I have to earn it every single week at practice, in meetings, whatever it may be,” Purdy went on to say.
Purdy had one of the most stellar performances of the season on Sunday in the 49ers’ 27-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, becoming the first 49ers quarterback to accomplish that feat since Hall of Famers Steve Young and Joe Namath each did it in 1989.
Purdy completed 21 of his 25 pass attempts for 333 yards and three touchdowns, adding four carries for 14 yards through the ground. His effort helped the 49ers improve to 7-3 through 11 weeks of the 2023 season before a pivotal Thanksgiving matchup against their divisional rival Seattle Seahawks.
