Former American League MVP Josh Donaldson has expressed his desire to make a comeback for the 2024 season before retiring from professional baseball. In an interview with Josh Wegman of The Score, Donaldson mentioned that he is “definitely up" for playing in 2024, emphasizing that it would be his final season, regardless of circumstances.

Facing challenges with a .678 OPS since the start of the 2022 season and being limited to 50 games in 2023 due to injuries, Donaldson, who will turn 38 next month, remains optimistic about his capabilities. Despite his recent performance, his batted-ball data has remained strong, and he continues to showcase solid defensive skills at third base. While he started the year with the Yankees, playing only 33 games, he later joined the Milwaukee Brewers for 17 more, albeit hitting just .169 in a limited sample size.

The Rotowire fantasy baseball portal suggests that Donaldson might secure another opportunity, potentially on a modest one-year deal. Considering his extensive 13-year career with the A"s, Blue Jays, Indians (Guardians), Braves, Twins, Yankees, and Brewers, where he earned three All-Star selections, Donaldson boasts a lifetime .261 batting average with 279 home runs. Notably, he led the American League in RBI with 123 during the 2015 season with the Blue Jays, a year in which he achieved a career-high 41 home runs and secured the American League MVP award. Despite potential challenges, it seems likely that Donaldson could earn another chance, possibly necessitating a minor league deal to make it happen.
