Former elite level golfer Anthony Kim once gave a waitress a five-figure tip, on Thanksgiving 2008.
His manager and longtime friend Adam Schriber recounted the story for Golf Channel’s Swing Expedition.
Kim had been injured since 2012, when he underwent a career ending Achilles surgery.
He never recovered and does not even play recreational golf and is said to have insured himself for between $10 to 20 million dollars in injury insurance.
“I can’t remember, it was either a $10,000 or $20,000 tip,” Schriber said. “To see him give back and do things for other people … that’s what it’s all about,” said Schriber.
Tbe story goes that Kim was at a restaurant in Palm Beach, California and congratulates the waitress on her upcoming pregnancy.
The waitress broke down saying her boyfriend left her, and months later, when visiting the same pizza joint Kim surprised her with the substantial tip.
Kim was for a long-time seen as a constant rival to Tiger Woods before injury cut deep.
Kim has three PGA wins under his belt as well as a Ryder Cup, and a Presidents Cup appearance.
His best major finish was third in the Masters in 2010, to go with a top five finish at the Open Championship a year later.
